Summary: A Kwa Ba is an African Primal Mother Goddess.

names:

    African names: A Kwa Ba

(NOTE: In addition to native variations by locality or over time, there are often several possible transliterations into the Roman alphabet used for English.)

basic information:

    African Primal Mother.

other:

It is likely that the “ba” in this Goddess name comes from the ancient Egyptian (Kemetic) word “ba”, meaning soul.

A Kwa Ba — The Primal Mother. To the Ashanti people of Ghana she is the symbol of welcome, and is always placed above the door. Maidens receive this carved wood or clay image at the age of first menstruation from an elder mentor; this ceremony means that she is welcomed into her motherhood role in the tribe. In Togo, a giant A Kwa Ba (Akua’ba) image always proceeds the chief in tribal procession, signifying that the Mother, and reverence for Nature, are the foremost communal values. —picture and text © 1996 JBL Statues (now called Sacred Source), original text created by Tom Laudeman
