Beef is an animal product from cattle (cows and steers).
Ecological implications: The production of meat (including beef) creates more harmful greenhouse gases than the exhaust of all the cars, trucks, and other motor vehicles combined, according to Ingrid Newkirk, co-founder and president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. This includes clear-cut removal of forest lands and rain forests to create grazing and feed lands, feed lands that require growing 16 times as much plant food for the creation of one pound (or one kilogram) of animal food (meat and poultry), and huge amounts of animal burbs and farts when grown in factory farming.

Oh, my fellow men, do not defile your bodies with sinful foods. We have corn, we have apples bending down the branches with their weight, and grapes swelling on the vines. There are sweet-flavored herbs, and vegetables which can be cooked and softened over the fire, nor are you denied milk or thyme-scented honey. The earth affords a lavish supply of riches, of innocent foods, and offers you banquets that involve no bloodshed or slaughter; only beasts satisfy their hunger with flesh, and not even all of those, because horses, cattle, and sheep live on grass., Pythagoras (Greek mathematician).
It may indeed be doubted whether butchers meat is anywhere a necessary of life. Grain and other vegetables, with the help of milk, cheese, and butter, or oil, where butter is not to be had, afford the most plentiful, the most wholesome, the most nourishing, and the most invigorating diet. Decency nowhere requires that any man should eat butchers meat., Adam Smith (British economist).

selection:
In the 1950s the U.S. started fattening cattle with grains rather than grass, allowing cattle to be packed into smaller land area, an important step in creating unhealthy factory farming. While eating beef is bad for humans (except in very small quantities, such as ceremonial events), eating grass-fed beef is significantly healthier than eating grain-fed beef. Grass-fed beef has less fat, less saturated fat, more CLA, and more omega-3 fatty acids than grain-fed beef.
